The invention discloses an energy saving elevator. The energy saving elevator comprises a hoistway vertically arranged, a car arranged in the hoistway, a driving device for driving the car to move, and a power supply system, wherein the power supply system comprises a commercial power supply device and a solar power supply device; and the solar power supply device comprises a photovoltaic plate set. The energy saving elevator further comprises a rainwater detecting unit, a sunlight angle detecting unit, a rotary lifting mechanism and a deflecting mechanism; the deflecting mechanism and the photovoltaic plate set are in drive connection; the rotary lifting mechanism and the deflecting mechanism are in drive connection; an object carrying cavity is formed in the top of the hoistway; a door opening and closing mechanism is arranged at the top of the object carrying cavity; a lifting cylinder is fixed in the object carrying cavity; the rainwater detecting unit detects if it is raining, and controls the door opening and closing mechanism and the lifting cylinder to work; and the sunlight angle detecting unit detects the sunlight angle, and controls a rotating motor and a hydraulic oil cylinder to work to enable the photovoltaic plate set to be perpendicular to the sunlight.
