This contact avoidance assist device (10) is provided with: an object sensing unit (61) that senses an object present in the vicinity of a vehicle (1); an operating unit (70) that implements contact avoidance control for the vehicle (1) with respect to the object sensed by the object sensing unit (61); and a traffic division determination unit (64) that determines whether the left/right traffic division of the road on which the vehicle (1) travels is left side or right side. The operating unit (70) modifies the control content of the contact avoidance control in accordance with the content of change in the left/right traffic division when the left/right traffic division determined by the traffic division determination unit (64) is changed between left side and right side.
