The invention discloses a city overhead suspension public transportation system. The system comprises viaducts which are arranged horizontally and vertically, are staggered up and down and are integrally arranged in a grid pattern. Each viaduct comprises supporting vertical columns fixed to the ground and a frame crossbeam fixed to the top ends of the supporting vertical columns. Walking tracks are fixed to the bottom surface, on the two sides of the supporting vertical columns, of the frame crossbeam. Walking lift cars driven by electric power are movably hung on the walking tracks. Walking overbridges are arranged on the ground where the viaducts are connected. The system is advantageous in that traffic jams in the city can be alleviated; noise and tail gas pollution are reduced; citizens can go out by proximity and transfer in situ; the system is safe, rapid, convenient, comfortable and economical, is high in automation degree and is high in carrying capability; and people can go out in a green, environmental, energy-saving and low-carbon manner. According to passenger flows in different periods, each line can be timely and intelligently adjusted. The system is low in construction cost, operation cost, maintenance cost and repair cost.
