The invention discloses a crane machinery brake self-check method including the following steps: determining that crane machinery is in a no-load state; after receiving a self-check instruction, allowing a brake to be braked and controlling a motor to output a test torque; and detecting the variation of a motor rotating shaft, comparing the variation with a preset threshold value, if the variation value is less than the threshold value, judging that the brake is valid, and if the variation value is greater than the threshold value, judging that the brake is invalid. Firstly, the machinery is determined to be in the no-load state before self-check, so as to determine whether the brake is valid under a condition of ensuring absolute safety; the determined parameter is the variation of the motor rotating shaft in the self-check process, and the braking effect can be more accurately characterized.
