The invention discloses a method for assisting in locomotive benchmarking. The method includes the steps that locating signals sent by a satellite navigation system and used for locating a locomotive are received; according to the locating signals, position data of the locomotive are acquired; and according to the position data of the locomotive and position data of a benchmarking point, whether the locomotive is matched with the benchmarking point or not is judged, and if the locomotive is matched with the benchmarking point, a benchmarking instruction is sent to an LKJ device. The invention further provides an assisting device for the locomotive. The assisting device comprises a satellite navigation receiving antenna, a locomotive locating module and a data processing module. The method and the device are applied to assisting the LKJ device in executing train benchmarking, the LKJ device is automatically triggered for executing benchmarking when a train reaches the benchmarking point, and the problem that the error is large due to the fact that the benchmarking point is manually measured through the eyes in the prior art is solved.
