The invention discloses an axle counter fault detection method for a train. Barrier identification is set, wherein the barrier identification is front barrier identification and rear barrier identification or is one of the both barrier identification. The initial value of the front barrier identification and the initial value of the rear barrier identification are occupied; when the barrier identification comprises the front barrier identification and the rear barrier identification at the same time, a ZC system conducts barrier exploration within the exploration distance range of the front portion and the rear portion of the communication train at the same time during every execution cycle; if a barrier is explored, the barrier identification in the same direction as the explored barrier is set to be occupied, and the ZC system conducts judgment in combination with the barrier identification in the operation state of the train and the zone axle counter state information obtained from interlocking; if the zone axle counter state information of the zone is occupied and the barrier identification of the zone is free, it is indicated that the axle counter in the zone fails. By means of the axle counter fault detection method, whether the axle counter fails or not can be judged, the corresponding fault handling is conducted according to the detection result, and normal operation of the train can be guaranteed.
