The invention discloses a brake system and method for an unmanned heavy duty vehicle. The brake system comprises a first air storage piece, a brake air chamber, a first brake valve and a first control valve. The first air storage piece is used for providing air. The first brake valve comprises an air inlet and an air outlet, wherein the air inlet is connected with the first air storage piece, and the air outlet corresponds to the air inlet. The first control valve comprises a first control port, a second control port and a third control port. The first control port is connected with the air outlet. When the air inlet is communicated with the air outlet, the first control port is opened. The second control port is connected with the first air storage piece. The third control port is connected with a brake piece. The brake system and method solve the problem that unmanned air brake of unmanned heavy duty vehicles cannot be achieves and achieve the technical effects of achieving the unmanned air brake technology and improving the safety coefficient of automobile drive is improved.
