The invention relates to an intersection traffic congestion index calculation method based on a floating car. According to the invention, a floating car technology is used to acquire the average speed of a road section; the saturation of an intersection channel is calculated; and the congestion index of the intersection is calculated. The method provided by the invention comprises the steps that the GPS data of the floating car are used to calculate the single-car sample speed of the road section; the average travel speed of the road section is extracted; the saturation of each entry channel of the intersection is calculated; the saturation of the intersection is calculated; the congestion index of the intersection is calculated; and the operation service level of the intersection is estimated.
