The invention relates to a short-distance vehicle following control method of an electric vehicle. Specifically, in a short-distance vehicle following mode, a brake pedal has the properties of electronic throttles and mechanical braking simultaneously, meanwhile, the real-time torque set value of a driving motor is changed along with rotation speed, namely, in the short-distance vehicle following mode, the range from S1 to S2 is the opening range of the brake pedal which plays the role of the electronic throttles, and furthermore, from S1 to S2, the initial torque set value of the driving motor of the electric vehicle is gradually reduced along with the gradual increasing of the opening degree of the brake pedal; the range from S3 to S4 is the opening range of the brake pedal which plays the role of mechanical braking, and from S3 to S4, the braking force generated by the mechanical braking of the electric vehicle is gradually increased along with the gradual increasing of the opening degree of the brake pedal; and meanwhile, the real-time torque set value of the driving motor of the electric vehicle is reduced along with the increasing of the rotation speed according to the pre-stored optimized curve, so that the electric vehicle has the safe and reliable short-distance vehicle following function in complicated road conditions such as flat grounds, downhill, uphill and unsmooth roads.
