The invention discloses an intelligent traffic light system based on piezoelectric ceramics and a control method, wherein the system comprises a control unit ECU, a north-south range finding signal acquisition circuit, an east-west range finding signal acquisition circuit, an energy storing device voltage detection circuit, a north-south traffic light control circuit, an east-west traffic light control circuit and an energy storing device switching circuit. In bad weather like rain, fog and dust storm and at night, normal work can be done without the influence of light; compared with image acquisition mode based on the pick-up head, the data bulk needs to be processed by a hardware is little; and the execution effect is better. The traffic light locates in the road where vehicle flow is relatively high, therefore the energy recuperation can be done better; the resource can be saved; and the environment can be protected.
