The invention relates to an electric vehicle power generation system and an arrangement method thereof. The system comprises an auxiliary wheel, a power generator and a power generation controller. The auxiliary wheel is arranged on one side of a wheel hub of an electric vehicle. The power generator is movably connected to a support. The other end of the support is fixed to an axle or a frame. A friction wheel is arranged at one end of the power generator. The power generation controller is arranged on a handlebar on the inner side of an electrified handle. The electrified handle controls advancing of the electric vehicle and disengagement and engagement of the power generator and the auxiliary wheel. The auxiliary wheel drives the friction wheel of the power generator to rotate and generate power. A storage battery of the electric vehicle is charged through the controller. By means of the inertia of the electric vehicle in the running process, redundant kinetic energy is converted into electric energy through technological means, and accordingly the running mileage of the electric vehicle is increased.
