The invention relates to a slip-controlled hydraulic vehicle brake system. According to the invention, two hydraulic pumps (9, 10) are provided for each brake circuit I, II, of which one pump is connected via pressure reducing valves (7) to wheel brakes (5), and the other is connected to a brake master cylinder (2). One hydraulic pump (9) has a large pressure build-up and is capable of pumping against the highest braking pressures generated with the brake master cylinder (2). The other hydraulic pump (10) has a high delivery volume for a rapid pressure build-up. The use of two hydraulic pumps (9, 10) rather than one facilitates fulfilment of the diametrically opposing requirements of pumping against a high counter-pressure without stopping and of building up pressure quickly.
