The present invention relates to a method for reducing jerk when completing an automatic braking maneuver. An automatic braking system for a vehicle is disclosed that includes an electronic brake system capable of applying wheel brakes to decelerate the vehicle and a controller for actuating the brake system in a manner that reduces jerk at the termination of an automatic braking maneuver.
