The invention relate to a rear vehicle state real-time monitoring system employing a data communication mode. The system is arranged on an automobile and includes a rear vehicle image collecting and processing device, an 802.11p communication device, a rear vehicle radar device and an ARM11 processor. The rear vehicle image collecting and processing device is used for taking pictures of a rear vehicle which is exactly behind the automobile and processing the images. The rear vehicle radar device is used for detecting a horizontal distance between the automobile and the rear vehicle. The ARM11 processor is connected to the rear vehicle image collecting and the processing device, the 802.11p communication device and a rear vehicle radar device. The rear vehicle state is determined based on an image processing result of the rear vehicle image collecting and processing device and the horizontal distance measured by the rear vehicle radar device and is then sent to the rear vehicle through the 802.11p communication device. By adopting the system provided by the invention, precise monitor of rear vehicle state is achieved and the rear vehicle state can be sent to the rear vehicle in real time.
