The present invention provides a drive device for railway vehicles, wherein the energy-saving effect of an entire feed system is realized instead of a single vehicle. The device comprises a first power converter configured to convert the DC power input through a stringing into a three-phase AC power to drive a three-phase AC motor; a power storage unit arranged on a vehicle to be charged/discharged by the DC power; and a second power converter configured to control the current flowing through between the power storage unit and the first power converter. During the power conversion/regeneration process of the first power converter, the second power converter switches the power storage unit among the charging state, the discharging state and the stopping state, corresponding to at least one of the stringing voltage and the input voltage of the first power converter.
