The invention relates to a method or device for operating an onboard network having a first energy store and a second energy store. The two energy stores are connected in parallel. Characteristic values (KW) of the first and/or the second energy store are detected and a regeneration phase (RP) of the first energy store is carried out as a function of the detected characteristic values (KW). In the regeneration phase (RP), a first operating voltage (V_1) is specified and provided by a generator in such a way that it contributes that the second energy store has a higher open-circuit voltage after a predetermined time period than the first energy store.
