The invention discloses a rail transit crossing priority control system, which comprises an operation management system, an automatic passenger counting system, crossing priority control equipment, a relay, train detection equipment, a control semaphore and a road traffic signal control system, wherein the crossing priority control equipment is used for controlling the adoption of a road traffic signal via the road traffic signal control system; when the on-time and behind-schedule information of a train and passenger amounts in each direction of the crossing are obtained, a real-time preference strategy can be adopted, and otherwise, an active priority strategy is adopted. The invention also discloses a rail transit crossing priority control method. According to the rail transit crossing priority control system, the delay of a tramcar and other traffic participants can be lowered, and operation efficiency is improved.
