The invention discloses a bus arrival people counting method and system. The bus arrival people counting method comprises the following steps: when the current bus arrival people counting needs to be carried out, intelligent terminal equipment receives a counting instruction of a current bus arrival people number and sends a request to a transit server; the transit server sends the request to counting equipment, the people counting function of the counting equipment is started; the current bus arrival people can be counted. With the adoption of the bus arrival people counting method and system, a driver timely knows whether passengers need to take off at current bus stops or not. If not, a bus can directly pass the bus stops without stopping; otherwise, the driver can know whether all of the passengers, needing to take off, take off at the bus stop in time or not, so that the great convenience is provided for users.
