The invention relates to a hybrid electric vehicle system and an energy management strategy thereof. According to the hybrid electric vehicle system, an internal combustion engine and a drive motor serve as a power source, and the provided power is transmitted to wheels through a revolving speed and torque coupling device. The system is further provided with an energy management unit and two electromechanical batteries (EMBs), and the energy management unit is interconnected with a power battery, the drive motor, the two EMBs, a generator and other main components through an electric circuit. Under the guidance of an energy management strategy design rule, the energy management strategy of the system is specified, and flowing directions of energy under different work conditions are planed in details. The system has the advantages that the two EMBs are controlled to perform short-time and high-power output, the power battery and the internal combustion engine work under more stable and more consistent working conditions, the unsatisfactory working conditions originally borne by the power battery and the internal combustion engine are changed to be borne by the EMBs, and therefore the purposes of optimizing power performance and economical efficiency of a finished vehicle and prolonging the service life of the power battery are achieved.
