The invention discloses an ultrasonic side scanning type ship draft detection system and method. The system comprises an ultrasonic transmitting array, an ultrasonic receiving array, a vertical ranging module, a draft detecting and processing unit and an alarm display module. The ultrasonic receiving array, the vertical ranging module and the alarm display module are connected with the draft detecting and processing unit in a wired transmission mode. According to the system, the ultrasonic transmitting array can adapt to changes of water levels and draft requirements, installation is convenient, and miniaturization of the draft detection system is realized; ultrasonic transmitting sensors in the ultrasonic transmitting array conduct ultrasonic transmission in a time-sharing mode, so interference between the ultrasonic transmitting sensors is eliminated, the ultrasonic receiving array can receive ultrasonic signals accurately, and the accuracy of measurement is improved; meanwhile, due to multiplexing of the ultrasonic receiving array, the complexity of the system is lowered. By the adoption of the system, a hardware system is omitted, and meanwhile the cost of the system is further lowered.
