This battery (30) comprises the following: a plurality of battery cells; a battery case (31) that has a bottom (31B), a top (31T) opposite said bottom (31B), and sides (31SF, 31SB, 31SL, 31SR) that connect the bottom (31B) and the top (31T) to each other, wherein the battery cells are contained inside the space bounded by the top (31T), the bottom (31B), and the sides (31SF, 31SB, 31SL, 31SR) with at least parts of at least one side surface of each battery cell in contact with each other; an intake port (31Hi), in one of the sides (31SR) of the battery case (31), via which a gas is introduced into said battery case (31); an exhaust port (31He), in the side (31SL) of the battery case (31) that faces the side (31SR) thereof containing the intake port (31Hi), via which the aforementioned gas is expelled from the battery case (31); and a fan (31F) that introduces the gas into the battery case (31) via the intake port (31Hi), makes the gas flow so as to contact top and bottom surfaces of the battery cells (32), and then expels the gas from the battery case (31).
