The present invention provides an apparatus and method for re-etching an engine cylinder wall. The apparatus includes a composition with an etching powder operable to deglaze the cylinder wall, as well as restore the cylinder's ability to hold oil so that it is no longer burned. The composition may be placed in a tray, which is operably connected to the air inlet of the engine. The method of re-etching the cylinder wall includes removing the engine air filter from the engine air inlet, introducing the composition to the air inlet (optionally using the tray to do so), and running the vehicle engine so that the composition is drawn into the engine cylinders via the intake airflow. The etching powder deglazes the cylinder walls as the engine runs, allowing the oil rings to reseat, which stops oil from burning and increases the efficiency of the engine. As the compression rings reseat, excess oil and carbon residue burns out and off of catalytic converters and valves.
