This design is used to improve hull planing performance by creating bilaterally symmetric contoured bottom cavity(s), which may differ in dimension and aspect, and which run through the bottom of the hull. The cavities act in a jet-like fashion to create a lower drag coefficient through reduced contact area with the water (planing) while maintaining sufficient control and without porpoising or other instabilities. This design creates additional reduction in drag through air incorporation within the water stream flowing under the hull, achieved through surface modification within the contoured channel. This design has application to surf boards, wind surf boards, kite surf boards, stand up paddle boards, boat hulls, airplane fuselage and sea plane pontoons.
