The invention relates to an elevator motor (12), comprising a stator (16) with stator windings and a rotor (20) comprising permanent magnets (26), whereby the magnets (26) of the rotor (20) and windings of the stator (16) are arranged in an axial flux arrangement, which rotor (20) is connected to a traction sheave (22) for driving hoisting ropes (24) of an elevator, whereby the permanent magnets (26) are arranged on a carrier (28) of the rotor (20) in a ring-like arrangement to form a magnet ring (35) with slots (30a, 30b) in between. According to the invention the slot width differs between at least some of two successive slots (30a, 30b) in the magnet ring (35). This permanent magnet motor has a reduced noise propagation and is particularly adapted for use in residential elevators.
