This AUV comprises: an underwater vehicle body which travels underwater along an object to be inspected that is located underwater or at the bottom of a body of water; an arm which extends from the underwater vehicle body; an inspection tool unit which has a contact portion that makes contact with the object to be inspected and an inspection device that inspects the object to be inspected; and a passive joint that is provided between the arm and the inspection tool unit and allows passive relative rotation of the inspection tool unit with respect to the arm about at least one axis.
