Railway vehicle (10), wherein the vehicle comprises an emergency braking device (100) comprising: 5 - at least one brake module (102), wherein each module (102) comprises a contact element (106) intended to be in contact with the ground at the moment of braking, and movable between a retracted position and a deployed position in which the contact element (106) is in contact with the ground and is able to slow down the moving railway vehicle (10) by applying a pressure force to the 10 ground, and - at least one control unit (104) that is capable of communicating commands to the brake module (102), wherein the control unit (104) is able to communicate to the brake module (102) the command to deploy the contact element (106) to its deployed position when at least a portion 15 of the vehicle (10) leaves the track on which the vehicle (10) is traveling.
