A vehicle security system, particularly for aircraft, comprises at least one first actuator in a cockpit of the vehicle operable to control a cockpit door lock and a plurality of second actuators in a passenger section of the vehicle operable to control the cockpit door lock. After the cockpit door has been locked upon actuation of the at least one first actuator, the cockpit door is unlocked upon actuation of a predetermined number, such as all, or a majority of the plurality of second actuators. The second actuators may comprise a multi-stage activation sequence, such as a first level of depression that is readily visible, but does not result in activation of the second actuators, and a second level of depression that is imperceptible except to the operator, that results in activation of the second actuators.
