The invention relates to a watercraft (1, 2) which has an electrical system (3, 4, 5, 15), said electrical system (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 15, 21, 22) being present in a space (8, 18), and said space (8, 18) having an atmosphere (20) that is different from air. The space (8, 18) can be formed by a pressure hull (19). The atmosphere (20) contains for example an inert gas. According to a method for operating a watercraft (1, 2), the space (8, 18) having an electrical system (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 15, 21, 22) is filled with the atmosphere (20).
