A gauge spacing apparatus (45) for positioning pot sleepers with respect to existing sleepers of a railway track where the existing railway track is provided with a pair of turnout rails which are separated from one another by a desired gauge distance. The gauge spacing apparatus (45) comprises a first guide member (47) which can be aligned with and secured with respect to a portion of the existing rail, and a second guide member (49) which is angled with respect to the first guide member (47) at a turnout angle such that the second guide member can be aligned with a portion of a turnout rail, wherein at least one of the first and second guide members (47, 49) is provided with adjustable sleeper engagement brackets (57) which are adapted to selectively translate along at least a portion of the first or second guide members in order to allow the sleeper engagement brackets of the first guide member to be secured relative to the existing sleepers and the sleeper engagement brackets of the second guide member to be secured to pot sleepers which can be interstitially positioned between existing sleepers of an adjacent section of railway track.
