THIRTY-FIVE months to the day after the memorandum of understanding was signed on May 17, 1965, by Mr Denis Healey and M Pierre Messmer on behalf of their respective governments to define a new programme for an advanced training and tactical support aircraft the first prototype, Jaguar E-01, was rolled out at the Velizy-Villacoublay factory of Breguet Aviation. Compact and purposeful in its camouflage paint scheme, the Jaguar was towed out of the hangar and M Bernard Witt, the chief test pilot of Breguet, proved its ability to roll under its own power by making a demonstration accelerate/stop up to 100 kts.
