Many materials employed in aerospace industries combine high strength, good corrosion resistance, and low specific weights but are difficult to machine. In this article, carbide tooling specialists Karl Hertel Ltd, Nuneaton, examine machining difficulties associated with some of these materials and discuss developments introduced to aid production engineers.
