Abstract A single instrumented car was randomly passed through a fixed time cycle, signalized intersection. An on-board computer was used to calculate dynamic advisory speeds at fixed points on the road. Experiments have shown significant reductions in stop rate and fuel consumption related to the quality of the speed information given to the driver. The importance of approach and intersection geometry is discussed, together with the effect of driver behaviour.
