Abstract This paper explores space dictionary translation to Kiswahili and its potential to arouse interest for building African space technology capacity. Kiswahili is spoken in 12 countries making 26.8% African population; in addition to being used in over 100 universities in diaspora. The language has indisputable potential of enhancing African space cooperation.
Highlights Distinctive features in Kiswahili language and its usage in scientific and space-related terminology explained. Status of African space sector highlighted. Potential of Kiswahili lexicon in building capacity for space technology underscored. Spotlight of the future steps in developing a full dictionary and machine translated version presented. Future plans and methods of availing this lexicon and dictionary to public highlighted.
