Abstract Photogeological analysis of Triton's images taken by Voyager 2 has led to distinguishing of three major terrain complexes: 1) canteloupe terrains of enigmatic origin, 2) various plains formed by essentially aqueous volcanism and 3) seasonal south polar cap. The evident traces of deformations and melting/flooding episodes seen upon the icy surface of Triton mimic many features of tectonics and volcanism of the terrestrial planets. Meanwhile the seasonal life of methane-nitrogen snow covers, driven by solar illumination cycles, mimic to some degree the seasonal circulation of H2O and CO2 on Earth and Mars. Consideration of the scale of volcanic and tectonic activity of 28 solid bodies of the Solar system in relation with the bodies' size and relative distance to the central body has demonstrated the important role of these parameters in the progressing of their endogenetic activity. The obtained results permit to make some prediction on the intensity of endogenetic activity of geologically poorly studied bodies basing on these parameters.
