Abstract Some new results of interpretation of IR spectra of Venus obtained in 1983 by orbiter Venera-15 for spectral range 270–1650 cm−1 are given. Temperature and aerosol profiles which were obtained by self-consistent retrieval are presented and used to analyze vertical profiles of SO2, its mixing ratio at 40 mb level and scale height. In low latitudes of planet a scale height of SO2 is 2–3 times less than that of the clouds. In cold collar this values are nearly equal, and in polar region scale height of SO2 as a rule is 2–4 times larger.
