Abstract The Foxx & Azrin method of toilet training was used with a 4 1 2 -yr-old male who had spina bifida meningomyelocele. With the parents acting as mediators in the natural environment, this child was able to gain substantial control over his bladder functions. A reinforcement program enabled him to take responsibility for bowel accidents. These changes in toileting behavior were maintained over a seven month follow-up period.
