AbstractThe downward solar radiation reaching ground, where amounts are determined by the atmospheric transmittance, is determined from Meteosat data. We present here results which are carefully verified with ground-based data. Collocated estimates of the monthly averages of daily sums of the global radiation agree with the pyranometer data within an uncertainty range of 8–10 percent. Possible error sources are identified.
