AbstractThe first approach of determining the global radiation from METEOSAT pictures for Warsaw area was made in 1986. The ground measurements of the relative global irradiation and cloud amount estimated from the METEOSAT pictures was compared for 7-month growing season. The obtained results were satisfactory. For the next two years the methods were improved. The cloud amount was estimated not only from METEOSAT but also from AVHRR pictures. The comparison with ground measurements of global radiation and photosynthetically active radiation was made. In this paper applied methods of estimation of cloud amount, obtained results and errors are discussed.
