AbstractAn expanding scientific interest in astronomical observations from the Moon has led the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to develop a two-part strategy for lunar-astrophysics Planning. The strategy emphasizes a systematic review process involving both the external scientific community and internal NASA engineering teams, coupled with the rigorous exclusion of projects inappropriate to lunar emplacement. Five major candidate lunar-astronomy projects are described, together with a modest derivative of one of them that could be implemented early in the establishment of a lunar base.
