AbstractEconomical and ecologically acceptable supersonic travel throughout the world can be a reality by 1995 or sooner. The actuality of supersonic commerical service to be provided by the Concorde and TU-144 SST is going to demonstrate to the work the advantages offered by supersonic travel for both business and recreation. Public acceptance will stimulate interest to proceed with a second-generation design that meets updated economic and ecological standards. This paper identifies an advanced technology supersonic transport that could be available for commercial service in the 1993 time period. It is estimated that this concept could lead to a configuration that would make possible airline operation with operating cost equal to that of the current widebody jets in service today. This airplane will meet all present-day ecological requirements regarding noise and emissions.
