Abstract Results of multivariate analysis show that most of the total solar irradiance variability is explained by the effect of active and to a less amount by passive sunspots and bright magnetic elements. This paper also demonstrates the limitation of simple analyses, as linear regression or even bivariate analysis which can reveal only the most obvious correlations between the used data sets.
