AbstractA method for emissivity - temperature separation with ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) to be onboard EOS-a1, data is proposed. Based on the well-known radiative transfer equation, assuming that water vapor is the most dominant factor for transmittance, also assuming that a representative atmospheric radiation instead of air temperature profile, the number of unknown variables among the equation is reduced. Then utilizing the constrained non-linear optimization technique, the equation is solved to estimate both of emissivity and surface temperature under the consideration of atmospheric effects.
