Abstract The Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory has opened a hard X-ray window of unprecedented sensitivity from 10 to several hundreds of keV which allows a fresh examination of the details of the accelerated electron spectrum during solar flares. Using the BATSE Spectroscopy detectors we have examined the low energy hard X-ray spectrum for thermal components and evidence of cutoffs in the accelerated electron spectrum.
