AbstractThe vibration behaviour of a simple one wheel vehicle as it rolls over a rough surface has been modelled using the suspension characteristics of rolling agricultural tyres. Comparison with vibration measured on such a vehicle shows that the natural frequencies of vibration are consistently predicted to within ±3% and that the rms acceleration levels are predicted to within ±30% with 97% confidence. Predictions made using the suspension characteristics of rolling tyres are more accurate than those made using stationary tyre characteristics. The greatest limitation on the accuracy of this model is error in the definition of the profile of the rough surface.
