Abstract Coronal millimetre-wave sources (CMMSs) at heights of about 105 km above the photosphere and lifetimes of at least several hours are considered to form a special class of post-flare events providing interesting objects for plasma diagnostics. Based on observations for more than six years their relationship to long lasting X-ray emissions (LDEs) and great flare events is examined. Although only a part of CMMSs is found to be associated with LDEs at a time interval < 5 hours, there is a close relationship when the time interval is increased. In this way CMMSs are indicators of active regions producing LDEs and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). The relationship to radio bursts of type IV and II, and energetic proton events is also studied. Moreover, we found that almost all active regions related to CMMSs generated also noise storms at metre wavelengths.
