Abstract The onset of oscillatory thermocapillary convection in floating zones has been measured under microgravity in two sounding rocket experiments TEXUS and on board of the satellite SPAS-01. We report on the critical Marangoni numbers measured under μ-g and in the 1-g reference experiments
