Highlights Geospatial and operational data were collected for more than 500 paratransit routes in Cape Town. A clustering algorithm was used to classify the routes in terms of their operational attributes. 20% of routes were classified as trunk routes, 30% as intermediate routes and 50% as feeder/distributor routes. 44% of the feeder/distributor routes, 22% of all routes, have a trip-end in one of the busiest public transport interchanges. These routes, all less than 10 km, can perform a feeder/distributor role in a hybrid integrated public transport network.
