AbstractThe paper discusses diagnostic techniques for propulsion systems dealing with temperature measurements by thermocouples and non-intrusive optical methods, velocity determination with lasers, concentration measurements using probes and optical techniques and regression rates in solid propellants, employing microwaves and ultrasonics. Different types of measurements of the same parameter are compared, stressing the suitability of each technique for particular experimental conditions. Particular attention will be given to application in supersonic flow, specially for propulsive systems, and to the author's original contributions.
