At the German Aerospace Center, the parallel simulation systems TAU and TRACE have been developed for the aerodynamic design of aircrafts or turbines for jet engines. Both CFD solvers require the parallel solution of large, sparse real or complex systems of linear equations. For the efficient solution of these equation systems, scalable Distributed Schur Complement (DSC) methods have been developed. Numerical, performance and scalability results of DSC algorithms are presented for typical TAU and TRACE problems form external or internal flow simulation on many-core architectures together with an analysis of the avantages of the complex problem formulation.
