Investigation of infrared spectra of products formed by addition of dialkyl phosphites to PVA fibers containing 95 to 100 mol% hydroxyl groups and also to PVA after partial and total dehydration showed that spectra of modified PVA fibers made by two different methods are different; this is probably due to differences in manner of addition of dialkyl phosphites to PVA, i.e., to formation of C-P bonds in dehydrated and partially dehydrated fibers, and C-O-P groups in freshly formed and partially dehydrated fibers.
